Types of Boots

Before purchasing a pair of boots, its important to consider what type will best suit your needs and will be most suited for your profession or activity.

Duty Boots

Duty Boots are a key piece to the police uniform. This type of boot is designed to protect your feet and provide the comfort you need for maximum performance on patrol. Most of these police boots have a height or shaft of 8 inches but can be found in different heights. This style of high-top footwear provides optimum ankle support so that youre ready for any terrain or physical confrontation.

Quarter Boots

The quarter boot is a lower rise boot thats between 5 and 7 inches. Its also known as a short boot, low rise boot, or even a mid-rise boot. This style has all the same great features as a higher cut boot but is lighter in weight thanks to its shorter height.

Tactical Boots

Tactical Boots are designed to handle tough situations and extreme stress. Theyre made from heavy-duty materials so that they can withstand and protect the feet of public safety professionals including law enforcement, the military, special operations forces, security and more. The outsoles and midsoles are sturdy enough for an improved environmental grip while navigating through potentially dangerous areas. They also enhance comfort for long periods of wear and are lightweight for ease of movement.

The Under Armour Men's Stellar G2 Tactical Boots are an excellent tactical footwear option for their agility and flexibility. These black tactical boots combine an athletic, lightweight design with performance-enhancing comfort features and heavy-duty construction so that they can take on the toughest terrain. The outsoles are slip-resistant and the boot itself is lined with a breathable PK mesh that wicks away moisture.

Military Boots

Just like tactical boots, military boots are designed to protect your feet while providing a reliable grip to help navigate through various terrains. There are many different styles of military boots including but not limited to combat boots, Army boots, Air Force boots, jungle boots, OCP boots, desert/hot weather boots, etc. Many of these have to meet certain uniform requirements and vary by branch and unit. The two main styles of military combat boots we carry are AR670-1 compliant boots and Berry compliant boots.

Berry Compliant Boots: A boot thats labeled Berry Compliant means that theyre 100% made in the USA - from the materials to the construction of the boot itself. This is a federal regulation that was passed during WWII (aka the Berry Amendment) and requires the Department of Defense (DoD) to procure goods made in the USA. This standard ensures that military products are of the highest quality.

AR670-1 Compliant Boots: This is an Army-approved boot that follows Army Regulation 670-1. These requirements include:

Tan or coyote in color
8 to 10 inches in height
Made of tan or coyote flesh-side out cattle hide leather
Plain toe
Soles match the color of the tan or coyote upper materials
Rubber and polyether polyurethane are the only outsole materials that are authorized
Sole not to exceed 2 inches in height, when measured from the bottom of the outsole, and will not extend up the back of the heel or boot or over the top of the toe
Exterior of the boot upper will not contain mesh but will be constructed of either all leather or a combination of leather and non-mesh fabric

Additionally, we also carry military-style boots. This style takes on the traditional appearance of uniform compliant boots without having to meet any uniform regulations.

Fire Boots

Firefighter boots are designed to protect your feet from the hazardous conditions you face while fighting fires. The heat, smoke and wet flooring from the fire hoses can make it hard to maintain your footing. With our selection of fire boots, youll maintain traction, have heat/flame-resistant protection and have the flexible movement needed to get around. Many of our firefighting boots will also come with additional safety features such as cut/puncture resistance and corrosion resistance along with attachment strength on the laces, findings and fastenings.

Many firefighters turn to the Danner Wildland Tactical Firefighter Boots for their lightweight support and stringent NFPA standards. These wildland fire boots are built with fire-resistant, rough-out leather and a breathable mesh liner for protection. The durable Vibram® S587 Fire & Ice outsoles enable oil/slip-resistant traction over rugged and high-angle terrains. On top of that, these safety shoes are ASTM F2892-11 EH rated for electrical hazard protection.

EMS/EMT Boots

The types of boots EMTs and paramedics require must be able to withstand all weather conditions and protect against on-the-job hazards such as bloodborne pathogens and slippery surfaces. Most of our EMS boots feature some type of bloodborne pathogen-resistant or waterproof membrane with non-slip outsoles and a side zipper for easy donning and doffing.

Many EMTs/Paramedics prefer the 5.11 Tactical 8 ATAC 2.0 Shield Boots for their superior safety features in the most unforgiving environments. These EMT boots are designed with a waterproof/bloodborne pathogen-resistant membrane, an ASTM/CSA rated composite safety toe and ASTM/CSA rated puncture-resistant midsole board for critical protection. Theres an Achilles heel flex zone for better foot motion and side zip for easy on/off. Additionally, these composite toe boots are resistant to compression, cutting, abrasions and electrical discharge.

Hiking | Trail Boots

Hiking boots/ trail boots are designed to provide your feet with the protection and support needed to trek through various terrains and climates. Many of our hiking boots are mid-height and feature a waterproof membrane with some type of support system such as ankle support, lateral support, heel support, etc. A lot of our hiking shoes also have a lace-up system to lock your foot into place and come built on a strong gripping outsole for proper stability on numerous terrains.

Perfect for technical hikes, the Salomon Quest 4D GTX Forces 2 will provide you with the comfort and protection needed for tough descents. These hiker boots feature Contragrip technology and comfortably holds your foot in place when going downhill. The outsole is made from two different types of rubber with a patterned area to grip terrain more aggressively while the integrated Gore-Tex material keeps your feet dry from the inside and out.

Athletic | Training Boots

Athletic/training boots are designed for physical training and for wear out in the field. Theyre typically made from lightweight materials for a faster response time and have more cushioning for better support. Many of our athletic boots and training boots are highly breathable, have moisture-wicking capabilities, and feature EVA midsoles for cushioned comfort.

The Bates Mens Rush Mid Tactical Boot is built like a running shoe, but with the performance of a tactical boot. These athletic boots feature a lightweight, breathable upper for active cooling and a 4mm heel-to-toe drop to enhance reaction time. Theyre also built on an athletic last with Strobel foam construction for shock absorption and rebound. On top of that, the rubber outsoles of these running boots have directional lugs for quick lateral movements.

Work Boots

Work boots are a type of specialized footwear that protects against certain on-the-job hazards. This could be protection against electrical hazards, slippery surfaces, hard impacts, compression, etc. There are different versions of these heavy duty boots including steel toe boots, composite toe boots, non-slip boots and more. Many of our work boots are designed to meet a variety of safety standards and regulations including ASTM, ISO, EN/ISO, etc.
