Dorothy Mae Miller

Dorothy Mae Miller, 78, of Knox City, Missouri, passed away Sunday morning (November 21, 1993) at the Kirksville Osteopathic Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

The daughter of James and Mamie Peters Boltz, she was born January 3, 1915 in Knox County, Missouri.

On February 14, 1937 she married Porter LeRoy Miller at Palmyra, Missouri and he survives.

She is also survived by a daughter, Anna Lynne Miller of Knox City; grandson, Donald Porter Martin of St. Louis, Missouri; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Porter LeRoy, Jr.

She was reared in the Knox City community where she attended the Jett School and graduated from the Knox City High School in 1933. She was also a graduate of the Northeast Missouri State University at Kirksville, Missouri with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education.

For many years she taught in the Knox County rural schools and before her retirement she taught in the Knox City Elementary School. Mr. and Mrs. Miller farmed north of Knox City, Missouri.

She was active in 4-H, PTA, Church Bible School and also active in the bond drives during World War II and other civic affairs.

She was a member of the East Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church; Missouri State Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Association.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday (November 24, 1993) at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel at Edina, Missouri, with the Reverend Ray Peters of Camp Point, Illinois, officiating. Music will be provided by Mike and Velma Wilson singing "Beyond The Sunset" and "In The Garden." with Carol Hayes, organist. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery northwest of Knox City, Missouri.

Casket bearers will be Bobby Mauck, Larry Walker, Robert Hubble, Terry Miller, William Hayes and Steve Whitaker.

Visitation will be Tuesday (November 23, 1993) from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening, and until the time of the service on Wednesday at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Homes Funeral Chapel, Edina, Missouri.

For those who wish to leave a memorial in memory of Dorothy M. Miller the family suggests the Knox City Fire Department and may be left at or mailed to the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Box 1, Edina, Missouri 63537.
