When JCVD's identical twin brother is murdered he goes undercover to find the killers. Police corruption, the Russian Mafia, and more all come into play in the passable film. JCVD is actually decent. He has good screen presence, and if you are a fan I would add a star. Natasha Henstridge is an absolutely captivating beauty, but her acting is flat in this one. The biggest criticism I have is that the action scenes are choppy and poorly filmed. The lack of good fight choreography makes this one dated and a disappointment. Many of the scenes show close up angles on the pints of attack clearly as a cheap and easy way to use stunt doubles without audience detection. The result detracts from the movie. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review trevor g Van Damme is in true form here - if you came wanting Tom Hanks in Forest Gump type cinema clearly you have mismatched your expectations with reality. This isn't supposed to be Oscar winning - it's an action movie but the subtleties of Van Damme's relationship with his dead brother, the tape left behind, the chainsaw fight scene, and beautiful Natasha Henstridge smart with-an-edge love interest create an entertaining movie well worth the watch. It strays away from I think typical action movies that you'd naturally put this on par with, because there were nuances. The sudden affection of the Russian mob boss towards Alain Moreau right before the changing of the old guard coup d'etat, Van Damme's unexpected compassion towards the Taxi cab driver trying to make a novel out of his adventures and symbolic keychain as well as the strategic use of Alain Moreau's sniper skills drawing from his time served in the armed forces - these all add contrasting elements that weren't all predictable. There was a certain nuance here that speaks of artistry Ringo Lam in his American directorial debut gives to the movie.
