Ingredients + Substitutions

  • Grands Biscuits – This is an easy go-to for making this stuffed pizza bread since it is easy to find, and just the right size. You can also use store bought pizza dough, or even frozen bread dough, or rolls, that have been thawed.
  • Cheese – Using cheese sticks cut into pieces or cheese cubes for easy assembly. Mozzarella gives the best pulled cheese effect and traditional cheese for pizza, but any cheese will do.
  • Pepperoni – Sliced pepperoni is easy to wrap around the cheese pieces before stuffing inside the dough.

Garlic Butter

This garlic butter makes the pizza rolls pretty magical, but you can save time by buying this premade or making ahead of time if needed.

  • Butter
  • Herbs: fresh parsley, dried basil, and dried thyme (or whatever herbs you prefer!)
  • Garlic paste – Premade garlic paste is super easy to use and saves time. Feel free to use fresh minced garlic if desired.
  • Salt
  • Red pepper flakes – This optional ingredient adds just the right amount of heat for flavor.

How to Make Pizza Pull Apart Bread

This easy pull apart pizza bread recipe is fun to make and takes only a little effort. Recruit the kids to roll up each biscuit dough ball or help place it into the baking dish. All hands on deck for this family-friendly dish!

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare a baking dish.
  2. Split each biscuit in half to create 2 thinner biscuit rounds. Do this with your hands to tear the biscuit in half, height-wise.
  3. Place one piece of mozzarella and pepperoni inside one of the halved biscuits and fold the dough around it, pinching the sides tightly to seal.
  4. Add each cheese and pepperoni stuffed dough ball to the greased baking dish seam side down. Bake for 30 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare the garlic butter by combing all ingredients together.
  6. Remove the pizza bread from the oven and brush with the garlic butter. Return back to the oven for another 5-10 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through.

Recipe Tips

  1. Pinch tightly! Make sure the bread dough is pinched tightly to seal the toppings in the dough and avoid the cheese from melting right out of the bubble bread.
  2. Baking Pan Size – For best results, while baking, you want to crowd the baking dish. This gives you the best pull apart bread and allows the dough to rise higher rather than flatter. If making a smaller batch, be sure to choose a smaller dish.
    1. Fun Tip for Parties! – Use a bundt pan! This bundt pan pull apart pizza bread will be a cool, fun display to serve at parties. And there’s a spot right in the middle to place the dipping sauce.
  3. Use melted butter – For easy spreading, be sure the butter is melted, at least enough to brush evenly over the pizza dough pull apart bread.
  4. Tight Seal – The most important step of making this recipe is ensuring the biscuit dough completely seals in the cheese and pepperoni. This is so none of the cheese seeps out while baking. If for some reason the cheese does still ooze out of the dough, it’s still going to be delicious, just not evenly spread out to each pizza ball bite.

Recipe Short Cuts

If you need to make this recipe, but are extra short on time, here are a few ideas that can help make this recipe even faster!

  • Make-ahead – This is an easy dish to make ahead of time and freeze until ready to eat. *See Freezer Instructions below.
  • Prep Ingredients – To give yourself a little extra time, have your cheese and dough prepped earlier in the day so assembly comes together more quickly.
  • Make garlic butter – The garlic butter not only can be made days ahead of time, you can also use it in different recipes. Want to have it ready to go all the time? Make a larger batch of butter and instead of melting, wrap the butter in wax paper and place it in a freezer-safe bag. Pull out of the freezer and use it for any occasion.

Recipe Variations

If you love this recipe as much as we do and want some quick ways to change it up for variety, these little tips will do the trick!

  • Vegetarian – Use your favorite vegetarian biscuit dough. Then, stuff it with cheese, chopped onions, peppers, mushrooms, and black olives. Use vegan butter for the garlic spread.
  • Meat Lover – Pepperoni, cooked sausage, and diced ham all stuffed into the tender pizza bread.
  • Spicy – Fill your dough with pepper jack cheese and add cooked spicy Italian sausage. Before baking, topped with jalapeno slices and a little shredded cheddar. The peppers will bake into the dough as it cooks for a nice bite. Dip in a spicy marinara sauce.
